Cape Town based Am I Collective offers award-winning creative solutions to clients across the globe in the following disciplines: packaging and CI design, animation direction, typography and illustration. Yes, it is a diverse offering, but it all comes together under exceptional creative ability. Our case studies explain it best.
What is the biggest challenge in getting creatives to work collectively?
Without a doubt, it's getting the egocentric and much pampered, creative mind into a space where it can accept that none of us are as smart as all of us. When this is accomplished - there really are no limits. Its not I AM but rather AM I?
I cannot survive with out creativity. Creativity is a need. It is something I have to do everyday
Why is it so important to merge concept with the technique?
The concept is what carries an idea, and being illustrators, we give life to ideas through different illustration styles. The medium in which we choose to make images, needs to evoke specific emotion. Its that feeling that needs to grab you by the balls and spit you out .. otherwise its a fail.
How would you differentiate your design offering from everyone else's?
There are not many design studios that have unlimited access to world class illustrators and typographers. I believe that the natural fusion between these disciplines has not been completely explored in design and that gives us a definitive edge. Our offering is unique because our structure is unique - we love each new journey of discovery, as we play from brief to brief.
How important is Typography and Illustration in design?
The choice of illustration style and the use of typography can completely change the look and feel of a piece of design. Everyone in our studio has a unique approach to illustration and typography. The combination of these unique styles and capabilities means Am I Collective ,as a studio, have a diverse range of solutions for your design needs.
Why pay attention to detail?
The saying goes, the devil is in the details. My understanding of this is that if you aren't aware of all the meticulous mechanics and planning that go into managing a project, the devil's gonna get ya!
